Solo Work
In my work, I utilise both ceramics and manual screen printing.
The themes I explore are the other half of the community work:
solitude, resilience, emotion and place vs displacement.

Soft Landing- O'ahu, 2024
"Soft Landing observes the textures that pass through our daily lives and fold away into the background. Everyday we take in and discard an endless amount of visual information. How it feels to be present within an environment quickly comes and goes. Collecting materials and recording small details within a wider scene may help to remind us briefly of a memory or arrive at a destination. Each artist offers us to step into their surroundings and stand still for a moment. To look at something again that might have easily gone unnoticed."
Public Eye observes the graffiti in Honolulu, Hawai'i.
This sculpture decontextualises and miniaturises a corner of the city beloved by locals and unseen by tourists, whilst bridging the gap between craftspersonship and the "unclean" aesthetic.
Often, Hawai'i is presented as a paradise with an idyllic, untouched aesthetic. Here, graffiti is a part of the community that is remembered and immortalised, literally cast in stone. These pieces speak not only to Honolulu, but to places alike all over the world that home a diverse type of people.
Instantly accessible to anyone, graffiti says ‘I’m here’. Graffiti is scanned by the human eye everyday, yet it is almost always overlooked as our attention shifts and moves on.
Can I Be Content Already?- Auckland, 2020
"The mid-21st century mind might almost be infantilised, characterised by short attention spans, sensationalism, inability to emphasise and a shaky sense of identity."
-Susan Greenfield, Mind Change
These clay pots are made up from individual pieces. Based on planters, they represent a container for growth. Precariously stacked into posts, they appear larger or more important, with words indicating a hoped-for self. These works address an emerging future where idealised reality is more attractive than real life.
In the current age, entertainment is a prioritised part of the online experience. The user takes in a range of content and while some things are subscribed to, some are random images and some are ads that are paid to be in front of us. Some posts are opinions from other people who affirm our beliefs by presenting us with information we agree with.
In using clay, the pots orient us toward their haptic qualities and what is actually infront of us. There is a focus on the senses, grounding oneself in the physical world. Clay's tactility allows the participant to step away from pseudo-reality, and into the life that exists right here.
