In June of this year, I was an exhibiting artist in the group show, Soft Landing, shown at Kaiao Space in China Town, Honolulu. Here is an overview of the show.

"Soft Landing observes the textures that pass through our daily lives and fold away into the background. Everyday we take in and discard an endless amount of visual information. How it feels to be present within an environment quickly comes and goes. Collecting materials and recording small details within a wider scene may help to remind us briefly of a memory or arrive at a destination. Each artist offers us to step into their surroundings and stand still for a moment. To look at something again that might have easily gone unnoticed."

Public Eye and Brick Cup observe the graffiti in Honolulu, Hawai'i.

These sculptures decontextualise and miniaturise a corner of the city beloved by locals and unseen by tourists, whilst bridging the gap between craftspersonship and the "unclean" aesthetic.

Often, Hawai'i is presented as a paradise with an idyllic, untouched aesthetic. Here, graffiti is a part of the community that is remembered and immortalised, literally cast in stone. These pieces speak not only to Honolulu, but to places alike all over the world, that invite you to look closer and find its secrets.

Instantly accessible to anyone, graffiti says ‘I’m here’. Graffiti is scanned by the human eye everyday, yet it is almost always overlooked as our attention shifts and moves on.
