Join ceramic artist Madison Cowper and grief counsellor Marisa Mencarelli-Skilton for a gentle, creative workshop for people who have experienced the loss of a loved one.

This three-hour session invites participants to tune into bodily sensations and explore how colour, texture, and form can express emotions and memories that are sometimes difficult to put into words. Together we will reflect on how grief can be held, expressed, and reshaped through making.

Participants will then work with clay to create a small ceramic piece. You are welcome to follow your own idea, or you may choose to make a “grief bowl.” In this process, the inside and outside of the bowl can be decorated differently—perhaps holding feelings of pain, sorrow, or complexity outside, while the inside reflects your relationship, memories, and connection with the person you have lost.

The intention of this workshop is not to “move on” from grief, but to gently bring the loved one forward in your life, honouring their presence and the ongoing relationship you carry with them.

Participants are invited to bring a photo of their loved one along to place nearby while working. There will be opportunities for optional sharing and reflection throughout the session, though quiet participation is equally welcome.

No prior clay experience is needed. All materials, glazing, and firing are included.
